WWE Studios announces two movie deal with Lionsgate

Reported by Ernest I Aguilar Zevallos

WWE Studios and Lionsgate have announced a two-film deal that will kick off with a reboot of Leprechaun, a 1993 horror movie which starred Jennifer Aniston.

Variety reports that both Lionsgate and WWE Studios will share producing costs as well as team on marketing strategies while Lionsgate will handle distribution.

The movie is set for a 2013 although so far no writer, director or cast have been announced.

"We have been looking for ways to continue our relationship with Lionsgate and we saw Leprechaun as the perfect opportunity to take a well-known franchise and put a modern-day spin on it. This is a property that we believe our audience will respond to and we continue to look for ways to surprise and engage them," said WWE studios head Michael Luisi.

This will be the third movie that WWE and Lionsgate have worked together on, with the previous two being Kane's See No Evil and Steve Austin's The Condemned.

Upcoming films for WWE Studios include No One Lives, starring Luke Evans and WWE's Brodus Clay; Barricade, starring Eric McCormack; and The Day starring Lost's Dominic Monaghan, Shawn Ashmore, and Ashley Bell, which was purchased at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival.
