The Smack is being laid Down for us tonight in Albany New York. The show begins with Alberto Del Rio being introduced by Ricardo Rodriguez. Josh Matthews, Booker T, and Michael Cole are on commentary. Cole is, of course, in the "Cole Mine", his goofy plastic protective enclosure covered with police tape. We are told that Edge, who retired this Monday on Raw, will be giving up the WWE title tonight.
Alberto enters the rings and tells us that tonight is not about him, it's about Edge. Alberto tells us that Edge was a hero to the WWE universe, the most decorated title holder in WWE history and an incredible man that he respects. And since Alberto is the #1 contender to Edge's title, Edge should come down to the ring and surrender the title to him. Teddy Long comes to the ring and tells Alberto that's not how it's going to be. Teddy says that Alberto is still going to have to wrestle in a ladder match at Extreme Rules to win the title, and his opponent will be determined by a battle royal to be held later tonight. Alberto is angry and says he's glad he hurt Edge, and that is was Edge's destiny to end up a cripple and a coward. Teddy says it's Alberto's destiny to shut up. Commercial
Match: Kofi Kingston versus Ezekiel Jackson, with the rest of the Corre at ringside. The two men lock up and Jackson pushes Kofi away. Kofi responds with a series of kicks and punches. Ezekiel throws Kofi away from him and then pounds him to the mat. Jackson bodyslams Kofi and puts him on the top turnbuckle. The other three members of the Corre are arguing over which of them is going to be the one to win the battle royal later tonight and fight for the championship at Extreme Rules. Jackson and Kofi have taken the action outside the ring and Kofi dropkicks Jackson into the announce table. Jackson responds by press slamming Kofi into his Corre team mates. The other members of the Corre try to run into the ring, and when order is restored, Jackson hits Kofi with a standing side slam for the win. After the match, Jackson tells us that he will show us in the battle royal why he is the personification of domination. Commercial
When we return, Layla and Michelle McCool are in couples therapy. Michelle doesn't understand why they are there; they're not a couple like "Brangelina" Layla responds that they're best friends, like Bert and Ernie (I thought they were a couple?) or Thelma and Louise. Layla says she wants them to be equals. Michelle responds that in order to be equals Layla would have to grow three feet, become blonde, and improve her in ring skills. Michelle leaves angrily. Layla smiles and tells the therapist that they'll be back next week.
Cody Rhodes comes to the ring next, and he wants to talk about Rey Mysterio again. Cody says he expected to feel vindicated after he beat Rey Mysterio, but instead he felt nothing. He tells us he won't be finished until Rey is so disfigured that his children look at him with the same disgust that Cody sees in himself. Rey comes to the ring and attacks Cody. After battling back and forth briefly, Rey hits Cody with a 619 in the stomach. Cody retreats. Commercial
When we return we are shown what I hope is an Awesome Kong video. A large woman with dreadlocks knocks off the head of a Barbie Doll.
Match: Rey Mysterio versus Drew McIntyre. Drew looks down at Rey before taking a swing and missing. Rey responds with a series of strikes before being power slammed by Drew. Drew goes for a cover but gets only two. Drew hits Rey with a backbreaker and gets another 2 count. Drew is in control and methodically beating on Rey and going for a cover every chance he gets. Rey hits a hurricanrana but Drew pushes him away when he tries to follow up. Rey lands a kick and knocks Drew out to the ring apron, then dropkicks him to the floor. Rey pursues Drew and Drew violently swings Rey head first into the security barrier. Commercial
When we return Drew is working on Rey's arm in the ring. Drew goes for a suplex but Rey slides out of it and sends Drew sprawling out to the floor. As Drew re-enters the ring Rey kicks him in the head. Drew gets suspended in the ropes and Rey hits him with a flying leg drop from the top rope. Rey goes for a cover but gets only two. Drew hits Rey with a tilt a whirl backbreaker and gets a two count. Drew stomps on Rey and then pushes his head hard into the canvas. Drew whips Rey into the corner and then charges; Rey dodges and Drew goes flying into the steel post. Rey goes to the top rope and hits a seated senton, then a hurricanrana. Rey lands a couple strikes then hits Drew with a springboard reverse cross body. Drew hits Rey with a couple of kicks and then tries to powerbomb him, but Rey is able to fight his way out of it while on Drew's shoulders. Rey turns it into a hurricanrana and gets another near fall. Drew pushes Rey away then takes him down with a clothesline from his knees. Drew follows up with another clothesline. Rey escapes from the corner and hits Drew with a dropkick to the knees. Rey then hits Drew with a hurricanrana, sending him into the ropes. Rey then hits him with the 619 and a top rope splash for the win.
We're shown a touching retrospective of Edge's life and career. After the video tribute is done, Edge is shown walking in the back talking to the other Superstars. He greets Dean Malenko, Matt Stryker, and his former nephew, Chavo Guerrero. Even Kane shakes Edge's hand, and Edge killed Kane's father just a couple months ago. Commercial
When we return, Edge walks to the ring to a huge ovation. Edge is all smiles and the crowd has already started chanting "Thank You Edge." Edge tells us that every time he came to the ring, we gave him goose bumps. When his music hits (which he thinks is the coolest music in the WWE) it's an incredible feeling, so he wants to do it one last time. Edge jogs back up the ramp and out of sight until his music hits; then he does his usual ring entrance. The crowd goes crazy and Edge is loving it. Edge says he doesn't want this to be a sad occasion, and tells us he is really happy that the seriousness of his condition (Spinal stenosis) was discovered before he got crippled. Edge tells us that he won his first WWE title right here in Albany New York. He also tells us he's glad his mom is in attendance. He tells us that his mom is the strongest woman he's ever met and that she gave him the strength to pursue his dreams. The crowd chants "Thank You Mom!" Edge tells us how much winning the WWE title meant to him, but he tells us it was never just his. Edge tells us the WWE title belongs to all of us, and his time to surrender it, and he places the title in the middle of the ring and walks back up the ramp after thanking everyone for a hell of a career. Commercial
In the back Rosa Mendes is telling Edge (In Spanish) how much she will miss him. Alberto Del Rio approaches Edge and extends his hand. Edge doesn't accept it and Alberto winks at him.
Match: Kelly Kelly versus Layla. Michelle McCool does come to the ring with her BFF Layla, but disdainfully refuses to participate in their usual synchronized ring entrance. Layla gets the early edge, knocking Kelly down and slamming her head repeatedly to the canvas. Kelly gets to her feet and hits Layla with a Thesz press and then pummels her on the mat. Layla lands a kick and Kelly responds with a boot to the head. Kelly stretches Layla out in the ropes with a headscissors, then takes her out of the ring and pounds her head into the floor. Kelly hits Layla with a facebuster on the floor and then re-enters the ring. Michelle rolls the still dazed Layla into the ring, where she is pinned by Kelly. Michelle then mocks Layla for losing again and says good luck without me. Commercial
When we return, we see a recap of the HHH Undertaker match from Wrestlemania and the reactions of various WWE stars, including Cena, the Rock, Big Show, CM Punk, and Edge.
Match: Battle Royal to determine who will face Alberto at Extreme Rules in a ladder match. Big Show comes to the ring first. Commercial
When we return, most of the competitors are in the ring, only Kane is still making his entrance. The Big Show eliminates JTG, Trent Barretta, and Heath Slater in short order. Then the Big Show eliminates Ezekiel Jackson with a clothesline, and his momentum carries him over the top as well. The Big Show has eliminated himself and Ezekiel Jackson at the same time. Jack Swagger and Drew McIntyre are teaming up to eliminate Kofi Kingston, but he fights them off. Commercial
Cody Rhodes goes after Rey Mysterio but is eliminated by him, followed by Kurt Hawkins who is eliminated next. The morbidly obese Brodus Clay knocks Drew McIntyre off the ring apron, eliminating him. Brodus then eliminates Chavo Guerrero after Chavo leapt on his back. Brodus and Kane then go after each other, with Kane getting the early advantage with several strikes. Kane goes for a choke slam but Brodus blocks it and takes Kane down with a shoulder block. Brodus picks Kane up and tries to eliminate him, but Kane gets free and hoists Brodus up over the top and eliminates him. Commercial
When we return, Kofi Kingston is nearly eliminated by Wade Barrett, but skins the cat and pulls himself back into the ring. Unfortunately for Kofi he only gets back in long enough to be eliminated by Barrett. Christian eliminates Tyler Reks and Yoshi Tatsu. Kane goes for a double choke slam on Corre members Wade Barrett and Justin Gabriel, but they escape and double team Kane, eliminating him. Chris Masters goes for the Master Lock on Wade Barrett, but Barrett prevents Masters from getting the hold locked in and throws Masters over the top. As Wade watches Masters leave, Justin Gabriel eliminates Barrett, making Gabriel the only member of the Corre left in the match. Jack Swagger, Christian, Justin Gabriel, and Rey Mysterio are the final four competitors. Christian and Swagger start to battle in the corner as Gabriel takes down Rey with a kick. Rey tries to hit the 619, but Gabriel gets out of the way. Gabriel tries to powerbomb Rey out of the ring, but Rey reverses it into a hurricanrana and sends Gabriel out to the floor. Swagger tries to throw Mysterio out, but Rey skins the cat and then sends Swagger sailing into the corner with a flying hurricanrana. Rey goes for the 619 but Michael Cole runs in and uses his body as a shield to protect Swagger. Cole gets hit with the 619 and falls to the ground. This was to make up for Cole slapping Swagger in the face last week. Rey goes for another hurricanrana, but Swagger blocks it and sends Rey flying out of the ring. Christian and Swagger are the only two left. Swagger goes on the offensive and beats Christian down in the corner. Swagger goes for a corner slingshot splash but Christian blocks it and tries to push Swagger over the top. Swagger powers his way out of danger and knocks Christian down. Swagger pounds on Christian near the ropes. Christian responds with a pendulum kick but Swagger catches it and puts Christian in the ankle lock. Christian rolls out of the ankle lock, but Swagger is able to pick him up and go for another elimination attempt. Christian slides out and tries to get Jack over the top, but Swagger blocks the attempt and hits Christian with a big boot. Jack then throws Christian over the top, but Christian lands on the ring apron. Alberto interferes and tries to pull Christian out of the ring, but Christian kicks him away. Swagger tries to take advantage of the distraction and charges, but Christian sees him coming, ducks and pulls down the ropes and Swagger sails out of the ring. Christian is your winner!!
After the match, Edge comes out to congratulate his friend and long time partner Christian. The two hug in the ring as Alberto looks on angrily, pointing at the WWE title. Edge raises Christians hand in victory as the show goes off the air.
