Dwayne Johnson scores leading role in MGM's Hercules movie

Reported by Earnest I Aguilar Zevallos

Variety is reporting that Dwayne Johnson has signed on to play the role of Hercules in the upcoming Brett Ratner movie for MGM.

Production will take place in New Zealand and will kick off in October of this year after Rock finishes working on Fast Six.

The movie will be based on the 2008 graphic novel titled Hercules: The Thracian War, by Steve Moore and adapted for the screen by Ryan Condal.

MGM's Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber and Jonathan Glickman will produce with Peter Berg and his Film 44 partner Sarah Aubrey, as well as Barry Levine of Radical Pictures, whose Jesse Berger will exec produce.

Johnson will next be seen in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, where he plays the role of Roadblock. The movie comes out in theaters nationwide on June 29.
