Smackdown Report TV 9/23/11

Reported by Earnest I Aguilar
The Smack is being laid Down for us tonight in Dayton Ohio. The show begins with John Laurinaitis in the ring with the entire SmackDown roster at ringside. John tells us that he is here to discuss the issue of HHH's management, and the idea that he has lost control of the show.

Raw was in chaos this week, and by the end of the show, two Superstars (R Truth and the Miz) were fired. But John tells us that he's changed his mind: he thinks HHH is in control because he could see the determination in his eyes at the end of the show.

John then introduces the new World Champion, Mark Henry. Henry walks to the ring and shakes Laurinaitis' hand. Henry says that it took him 15 years to win the World title, and it's going to take 15 years for someone to take it from him. Henry stares at Ezekiel Jackson and Teddy Long and accuses them of not believing in him. Henry holds up the title and asks if they believe in him now.

At that moment HHH's music comes out and the COO enters the ring and extends his hand to Mark Henry. Henry just stares. Eventually it becomes apparent that HHH actually wants Mark Henry to hand the microphone over, and eventually, Mark Henry does. Before HHH can speak, Christian enters the ring and interrupts.

Christian says that everyone can see HHH is doing a great job as COO and is treating his employees in an exemplary manner, and he wants to thank him for that. Christian says HHH is a great leader, in the same way that Christian, as a two time world champion, is also a great leader. Christian (sounding a bit like Ron Burgundy) tells HHH "I'm kind of a big
deal around here". Christian says that while "you know who" is the champion, he can't be the face of the company. Can you see Mark Henry's face on a cereal box? Can you see mark Henry reading to a group of young schoolchildren.

Christian tells HHH that in order to be the kind of leader he needs to be, he needs to be champ. So when "you know who" (motioning again towards Mark Henry) chokes at Hell in a Cell like he always does, Christian will get "ONE MORE MATCH", which he deserves, and beat Randy Orton to become the 3X World Champion!

HHH asks Christian if he's finished and tells him he was "pretty good." HHH addresses the superstars at ringside and says that he them all to know that he has things under control. He also says he appreciates Christian's leadership and says he's going to give him a chance to lead by example later tonight when he faces "you know who" Mark Henry for the World Championship in a lumberjack match, with all the superstars present at ringside.

The winner will face Randy Orton at Hell in the Cell. Despite getting another championship match, Christian seems very unhappy. Mark Henry stands behind Christian and stares menacingly. Christian faces Mark Henry and slowly backs away.

Match #1: Heath Slater versus
Sheamus.

The two ginger warriors talk some trash before the match. I can't make it out, but I imagine Sheamus is telling Slater he looks like the Wendy's girl and Slater is telling Sheamus he looks like a jar of mayonnaise with a red lid.

The two men lock up and Sheamus pushes Slater to the corner. They break and lock up again and Slater gets behind Sheamus and applies a headlock. After an Irish Whip, Sheamus hits Slater with a shoulder block. Slater pushes Sheamus and Sheamus responds with a clothesline. Sheamus pounds on Slater's back, then ties him up in the ropes and repeatedly pounds his chest. Sheamus hits Slater with a knee lift, slams his face into the turnbuckle and then pounds on him in the corner.

Slater responds with an elbow, a kick, and then a swinging neckbreaker. Slater lands a couple more strikes and then forces Sheamus to the mat while applying a chin lock. Sheamus gets to his feet, lands a punch, and whips Slater to the ropes. Slater ducks a clothesline and hits a neckbreaker. Slater slaps Sheamus upside the back of the head in a disrespectful manner. Sheamus appears angry and flattens Slater with a double arm clothesline.

Slater lands a boot to the face, but Sheamus keeps attacking and puts Slater down with a powerslam. Sheamus whips Slater into the ropes and then knocks him over. After another Irish Whip, Sheamus hits Slater with a high knee. Sheamus goes to the top rope and hits Slater with a flying shoulder block. Sheamus pounds his chest repeatedly as he waits for Slater to get to his feet, and then knocks him out with the Brogue kick. Sheamus covers him for the win.

In the back, Christian is all smiles and approaching the Great Khali. Christian is looking for help in tonight's lumberjack with Mark Henry. Christian tells Khali that eventually Khali will get another title shot, and then asks him who he would rather face: a monster like Mark Henry that has already taken out giants like the Big Show and Kane, or a smaller, craftier champion, like Christian.

Khali smiles and Christian asks if he understands any of this. Khali keeps smiling and says he understands "that Christian is small" and makes a little gesture with his thumb and forefinger. It looks like the "I'm crushing your head!" move that was made famous on "Kids in the Hall."

Christian laughs and congratulates Khali on his sense of humor and says that since they have an understanding, he looks forward to seeing him later tonight. Khali again laughs at Christian and makes the same small finger gesture. I think Khali is just saying Christian is small, but it looks more like "crushing your head", or possibly, that he thinks Christian has a small penis.

Match #2: Wade Barrett versus Justin Gabriel.

The two men lock up and Gabriel puts Barrett in a front face lock. Barrett picks Gabriel up and drops him hard on the mat and then follows up with many punches. Gabriel gets caught up in the ropes and Barrett hits him with a series of knee lifts to the head. Barrett hits Gabriel with a big boot to the head that knocks him to the floor.

Barrett goes out after Gabriel and then rolls him back in. Barrett charges after Gabriel but Gabriel sends him flying out of the ring and then hits him with a senton over the top rope and out onto the floor. Gabriel rolls Barrett back in, hits him with a springboard moonsault and then follows up with a spin kick. Gabriel lands a punch and tries for an STO, but Barrett blocks it and lands an elbow.

Gabriel goes for the STO again and this time hits it. Gabriel steps to the edge of the ring apron to climb the ropes, but Barrett hits him with a big boot to the face before he gets anywhere. Barrett pulls Gabriel back in and then hits him with "wasteland" for the win.

When we return, Matt Striker reminds Orton that tonight will be his first match since losing the title. Striker then asks if Orton has any comment about his
match tonight with Cody Rhodes, and Orton says no. Striker then asks Orton what he has been thinking about, and Orton replies "Hell."

Orton has a match for the title in the Hell in a Cell PPV coming up, and Orton says that when he returns from hell, he's bringing the World Championship with him.

Christian is in the back, this time trying to enlist the aid of Ezekiel Jackson. Jackson doesn't seem too eager, and Christian angrily reminds him that he's won 2 World titles and asks Jackson how many he's won. Jackson looks angry so Christian starts to back up.

Christian says that as a 2 time world champ, he can recognize a future world champ when he sees one, and that if Jackson looks out for Christian tonight, he can make sure Jackson gets his opportunities in the future. Christian asks if they have an understanding and before Jackson can answer, Christian says "Good, I'll see you out there."

Match#3: Beth
Phoenix and Natalya versus AJ and Kaitlyn.

Kaitlyn and Natalya start things off. Natalya pushes Kaitlyn to the corner and then charges. Kaitlyn dodges the charge and hits Natalya with a dropkick. Natalya trips Kaitlyn into the ropes and Beth lands a cheap shot while the ref was distracted. Natalya tags in Beth and they hit Kaitlyn with a double delayed vertical suplex.

Beth rubs Kaitlyn's face into the mat. Kaitlyn gets to her feet, lands a punch, and then tags in AJ. AJ lands a punch and a kick. Beth goes after AJ but AJ dodges, knocks Beth down to one knee, and then hits her with a Shining Wizard. Natalya runs in to make the save but is cut off by Kaitlyn; both divas tumble to the floor.

AJ gets whipped to the corner and gets her legs up to go for a headscissors takedown, but Beth catches her and kicks her in the gut. Beth picks AJ up and hits her with the glam slam for the win.

Match #4: Randy Orton versus IC champ Cody Rhodes, with his baggers.

It looks like MOST of the people in the front rows are wearing the ugly bags that Cody has supplied them with. Randy starts the match off fast with several strikes before throwing Rhodes to the floor. Orton pursues Rhodes, hits him with a European uppercut, and then whips him into the security barrier. Orton rolls Rhodes in, but as he re-enters the ring himself, he has his leg chopped out from under him by Rhodes.

Rhodes pounds on Orton's knee, but Orton gets to his feet and whips Rhodes to the ropes. Orton lands several strikes but Rhodes stops him with a kick to the knee. Rhodes starts to punish Orton's knee with elbow drops and kicks. Rhodes slams Orton's knee into the corner post and then removes the top turnbuckle from the corner.

The ref admonishes Rhodes and then tries to put the turnbuckle put back together. As the ref is busy with the turnbuckle, Rhodes takes off his protective face guard and hits Orton in the head with it. Rhodes goes for a cover but Orton kicks out! The ref asks Cody why his mask is off, and Cody replies that Orton took it off.

The ref orders him to put it back on and he does. Rhodes tries to kick Orton but Orton catches Rhodes' foot and holds him there. Randy reaches out and pulls Cody's face mask off and beats him with it, right in front of the ref.

Orton gets DQ'd and Cody wins, but I don't think Orton cares. Orton pummels Rhodes with his own mask and then hits him with a rope hung DDT. Orton rolls Rhodes to the floor and knocks him out with the time keeper's bell.

Someone gave Rhodes a towel, but you can see that he has been bloodied. Orton RKO's the bloody Cody Rhodes onto the announce table. Orton slowly walks away and then raises his arms in the air as the crowd cheers wildly.

In the back, Christian is now asking Sheamus for help, and offers him a potato as a gift. Christian heard that the Irish loved potatoes, and Sheamus replies that it's practically all they eat. Christian says that even though Sheamus recently kicked him in the head, he still wants to give Sheamus the first title shot when he becomes champ.

Sheamus seems pretty agreeable and Christian walks away thinking they have an understanding. Sheamus bites into the potato like it's an
apple and spits it out, proclaiming: "this potato ain't from Ireland, it's from Idaho!"

Commercial

Match #5: Khali versus Jinder Mahal.

Before the match even begins, Jinder angrily orders Khali to lay down for him. Khali declines. Jinder starts the match off with some kicks, and is then knocked down by a chop. Jinder lands some more kicks and then a DDT to Khali. Jinder goes for a cover but gets only two.

Jinder stomps on Khali and applies a front face lock, but Khali picks him and drops him. Khali lands a couple clotheslines and a punch. Jinder responds with some more kicks to the legs but Khali finishes him off with the Punjabi plunge. Khali covers Jinder by stepping on his chest with one foot.

Commercial

Match #6: Sin Cara versus Daniel Bryan.

he two men shake hands before the match, so I think this must be the good Sin Cara. The two men lock up and Bryan delivers a hip toss and follows up with a headlock on the mat. Sin Cara wraps his legs around Bryan's head and Bryan handstands his way out of it.

Bryan puts Sin Cara in a surfboard and then flips him out of to go for a pin and gets 2. Bryan twists Sin Cara's arm and hits him with a kick to the face. Sin Cara attacks Bryan and Bryan tries to reverse it with a wheelbarrow but neither man is successful. Sin Cara lands a kick and then a flying body press. Bryan hits Sin Cara with a suplex and goes for a cover but Sin Cara kicks out.

Bryan goes for another suplex but Sin Cara gets out of it and hits Bryan with a handspring back elbow. Sin Cara hits Bryan with a hurricanrana that sends him to the floor. Sin Cara rolls Bryan in and climbs to the top rope.

The OTHER Sin Cara runs out and pushes the original Sin Cara off the top rope to the floor while the ref isn't looking. The second Sin Cara hits Bryan with a kick to the head and then a senton from the top for the win The evil Sin Cara has just defeated Daniel Bryan in a match he wasn't in.

D Bryan's stock is falling faster than the DOW.

In the back Christian is still looking for help as he approaches Randy Orton's dressing room. Before he can knock, Zach Ryder comes out of Orton's dressing room. Christian asks if he can be Zach's Broski of the week, presumably because he wants Zach's help tonight in the lumberjack match with Mark Henry.

Zach says he'd love to, but as the GM's assistant, it would be a conflict of interest for him. Christian then asks Zach if he'd talk to Orton about helping Christian, but Zach is interrupted by a call from his new best buddy, Hugh Jackman. Christian stares at Orton's door, but decides against asking him for help and walks away.

Commercial

Match #7: Air Boom versus the Usos.

Evan Bourne and Jimmy Uso start things off. The two men lock up and then separate. Evan lands a spinning kick and gets a two count. Evan lands another kick and then tries a springboard splash but is caught by the Usos. They both drop Evan down hard, and then Jimmy tags in Jay.

Jimmy holds Evan over his knee so Jay can fly off the top rope onto him. Jay shoulder blocks Evan into the corner and then tags in Jimmy. Jimmy hits Evan with a running ass to the face. Jimmy puts Evan in a headlock and Evan escapes with kicks. Jimmy hits back but Evan hits him with a hurricanrana and tags in Kofi.

Jimmy tags in Jay at the same time and Jay gets hit by Kofi with a flying clothesline. Kofi follows up with a big chop and a dropkick. Jay whips Kofi into the corner and charges, but Kofi hits him with a pendulum kick. Kofi goes to the top and hits jay with a HIGH cross body and gets a two count.

Kofi takes a shot at Jimmy and is then hit by Jay with a superkick. The Usos try to double team Kofi, but he escapes and hits a hurricanrana on one and Trouble in Paradise on the other. Kofi tags in Evan Bourne and Evan hits the Shooting Star Press for the win!

Commercial

Match #8: World Champion Mark Henry versus Christian in a lumberjack match.

After the bell, Christian immediately steps out to the edge of the ring apron, and the lumberjacks appear ready to force him back in. Christian goes back in and they lock up. Christian gets behind Henry, but Henry just backs him up into the corner and elbows him. Henry whips Christian hard into the corner then stomps on him on the floor.

Henry whips Christian to the ropes; Christian ducks Henry's next swing and counters with several hard shots to the face. Henry then grabs Christian by the throat and throws him to the floor. Ezekiel Jackson hits Christian with a knee and rolls him back into the ring. Henry goes for a cover, gets two and then follows up with a headbutt.

Henry applies a neck/shoulder pinch to Christian. Christian tries to turn out of it, but Henry whips him to the ropes and then throws him high into the air. Christian comes crashing down and Henry goes for a cover and gets two. Henry reapplies the shoulder pinch and Christian escapes with a kick to the head and a kick to the gut.

Christian goes for a springboard move but Henry catches him and applies a bear hug. Henry runs Christian into the corner, flattening him. Henry backs up to charge at Christian again, but Christian dodges. Christian lands several blows to the head and then hits Henry with a clothesline that fails to knock him over. Christian tries to whip Henry to the ropes but can't, and is instead whipped into the corner by Mark Henry.

Henry charges but Christian gets his boots up and knocks Henry back. Christian goes to the top rope and hits Henry with a missile dropkick, and then hits him with a second missile dropkick. Christian goes for a cover and gets two. Christian goes for the Kill Switch, but it looks like Henry may be too big for Christian to get him around.

Henry flattens Christian and gets a two count. Christian tries for a sunset flip but can't get Henry over. Henry tries to sit on Christian, but Christian rolls out of the way. Henry was near the edge of the apron and rolls to the floor. All the lumberjacks back away. Henry grabs Christian's leg and yanks him hard to the floor.

ALL the Smackdown superstars attack Henry at this point, and Mark Henry pushes them all off of him. Henry military presses Trent Barretta and throws him into the lumberjacks, knocking down several of them. Christian looks intimidated and starts to back up the runway to the locker room. Suddenly Sheamus runs out and throws Christian back into the ring.

Mark Henry picks Christian up and hits him with the World's Strongest Slam for the win. After the match, Randy Orton comes to the ring to confront Henry. Orton angrily paces the ring for a minute and then attacks Henry, landing a lot of punches. Orton tries for an RKO but Henry pushes him off.

Orton hits Henry with a standing dropkick that knocks him out of the ring. Mark Henry walks back to the locker room holding his championship belt high as SmackDown goes on.
