The Smack is being laid Down for us tonight in Charlotte North Carolina. Alberto Del Rio starts the show off, accompanied by Brodus Clay and Roberto Rodriguez. Michael Cole's "Cole Mine" (his protective enclosure next to the announce table) is covered with police tape, but he promises it will be repaired. I'm sure you are just as relieved as I am.
Alberto looks very angry and tells us that his destiny has been delayed, not stopped. He blames the "cowards" Edge and Christian for delaying his destiny and destroying his car, which he loved like it was his child.
Edge comes out riding in the back of a Brisco Brother's tow truck; which is hauling Alberto's ruined Rolls Royce. Edge says that if Alberto really thinks of his car as his child, then he must love it unconditionally, not matter how it looks. Edge then spray paints the hood of the car with yellow paint.
Edge also informs Alberto that for all his talk about destiny, he couldn't get the job done at WrestleMania, so he has to go to the back of the line. Edge claims that a lot of people deserve a shot more than Alberto; just then the truck's horn beeps and Christian steps out from behind the wheel.
Edge reminds us that Christian has beaten Alberto twice in a row, and clearly deserves a title shot before Alberto does. However, if Alberto wants a fight, Edge seems willing to oblige. Before any violence can ensue, Teddy Long comes and does what he always does: turns an in-ring argument into a match.
Tonight Alberto Del Rio will face Christian in a #1 contender's match and the winner will face Edge in a ladder match for the title at Extreme Rules.

Match: Big Show, Kane, Santino, and Kofi Kingston versus The Corre (Barrett, Gabriel, Jackson, and Slater) Best two out of three falls.
Justin Gabriel and Santino are the first two competitors in the ring. Gabriel gets an early advantage and beats Santino down in the Corre's corner before tagging in Heath Slater. Slater continues the beat down until Santino is able to escape and take Slater down with a hip toss. Santino forces Slater into the corner and tags in Kane.
Kane starts off with a series of strikes to Slater and then hits him with a dropkick before tagging in the Big Show. Big Show drops Slater with a big chop and a body slam, and then steps on his chest.
Big Show tags in Kofi and Kofi does a big splash from atop the Big Show's shoulders. Kofi tries for the Trouble In Paradise, but the rest of the Corre pull Slater out of the ring.

When we return, Kane is beating on Wade Barrett in the corner. Wade fights his way out and tags in Ezekiel Jackson. Kane and Jackson lock up and whip each other into the ropes. Kane is momentarily distracted and Jackson flattens him, and then pushes him to the Corre corner.
The Corre make several quick tags, in and out, while continuing to isolate and punish Kane. Justin Gabriel hits Kane with a missile dropkick while Jackson holds him. Kane tries to make his way to the corner and Gabriel tries to stop him.
Kane eventually slams Gabriel to the mat and tags in Kofi. Kofi comes in and hits a series of moves: a flying clothesline, a drop kick, a pendulum kick, and a high crossbody and covers Gabriel for the first pin!

When we return, Heath Slater is knocking down Santino and trying to submit him on the mat. Santino escapes and kips up. Slater attacks Santino and Santino ducks into a split then gets back to his feet in time to hip toss Slater. Slater tags in Barrett as Santino sets up for the Cobra.
Barrett hits Santino with the Wasteland for second fall of the match: it's now tied 1 to 1. Wade beats on Santino some more then tags in Slater. Slater punches Santino, steps on his throat, and then tags in Jackson. Jackson whips Santino hard into the corner and then clotheslines him. Ezekiel goes for a cover, but Big Show makes the save.
Ezekiel body slams Santino then tags in Gabriel. Gabriel leaps into the ring and knocks Santino down. Gabriel puts Santino in a chin lock. Santino fights to his feet but Gabriel takes him down with an STO. Gabriel tries for a springboard move but misses. Santino tags in Kane and Gabriel tags in Barrett. Kane knocks Barrett down then hits him with a clothesline and a side slam. Kane goes to the top rope and hits Wade with a flying clothesline.
Kane goes for the cover but Jackson comes in and makes the save. Everyone runs into the ring and a brawl ensues. Eventually, the brawl spills out onto the floor and the only two men left in the ring are Kane and Barrett; the two legal men. Kane sets up for a choke slam and the rest of the Corre runs into the ring and beats Kane down.
The rest of Kane's team comes to the rescue: Kofi hits Barrett with the TIP, Kane choke slams Slater, Big Show knocks out Gabriel, and Kane, the Big Show, and Santino combine for a triple choke slam to Jackson.

When we return we see another Sin Cara promotional video.
Match: Cody Rhodes versus Trent Barretta.
Cody gets the early advantage and lands several kicks before hitting a missile drop kick. Cody goes for a cover but Trent kicks out. Cody whips Trent to the ropes, kicks him, and hits him with a side Russian leg sweep.
Cody slams Trent into one corner, beats him down, and then slams him shoulder first into the opposite corner. Trent Barretta clutches his injured shoulder as Cody hits him with the Cross Rhodes (a spinning face buster) for the win.
After the match, Cody beats Trent down some more, using his protective face mask as a weapon. Rey Mysterio comes running to the ring after Cody and tries to pull off his mask. Cody holds the mask onto his face and runs away.

In the locker room, Edge tells his friend (and at one time in WWE history, brother) Christian that he's rooting for him. Christian asks if Edge is still rooting for him even though a win by Christian would mean Edge would have to face Christian in a ladder match; a match they both specialize in and helped pioneer.
Edge says he would, because he really doesn't like Del Rio. When Edge walks away, Christian gazes longingly at his championship belt, and Edge catches him. Edge laughs and Christian tells him to keep his eyes on that title.

Match: Team LayCool versus Kelly Kelly and Beth Phoenix.
Josh Mathews asks Cole why he's not wearing his singlet tonight, and Cole ALMOST says the dreaded "W" word, replying: "because I'm not wres...because I'm not entertaining tonight." I'm not sure why he specified 'tonight'; he's never entertaining.
Beth and Michelle start the match off and Beth beats Michelle down early then takes her down with a clothesline. Beth knocks Michelle into he ropes, causing Layla to be knocked off the ring apron onto the floor. Michelle then turns to tag Layla and is angry that she can't because Layla is on the floor.
Layla tries to explain that Michelle knocked her off, but Michelle doesn't want to hear it. Michelle finally does tag Layla in and Layla gets press slammed onto the top turnbuckle by Beth. Beth kicks her then tags in Kelly.
Kelly wraps Layla up in a headscissors then hangs over the ropes until just before the 5 count. Kelly goes to the tope and hits Layla with a crossbody and gets a two count. Layla starts to turn things around and hits Kelly with a facebuster.
Layla then tries to tag in Michelle, but Michelle feigns a back injury and refuses the tag. Kelly rolls a distracted Layla up for the win. After the match Layla and Michelle continue to bicker. All is not well with the Team LayCool.

When we return, Michael Cole introduces the man that taught him everything he knows: Jack Swagger. Swagger comes to the ring ad calls Michael Cole the new "Mr. WrestleMania" because only he could have his very first match at WrestleMania, dominate his opponent, and earn the victory.
Cole and Swagger slobber over each other a bit more until they are interrupted by Sin Cara. Sin Cara bounces around a little to get the crowd going, then points at Swagger. Sin Cara runs to the ring and LEAPS over the top rope into the ring from the floor.
Sin Cara then takes a page out of "Snooky's" playbook and executes a handsping back elbow, then follows it up with a hurricanrana that sends Swagger out of the ring. Sin Cara walks back to the locker room as Swagger and Cole point angrily and yell.

When we return, Layla is trying to get Michelle to go with her to couples therapy. Michelle tells her they aren't a couple. Layla just tells her to show up, and Michelle grumbles a little like a reluctant spouse.
We're shown a very emotional recap of HHH inducting Sean Michael's into the Hall of Fame.
Match: for the #1 contender spot at Extreme Rules: Alberto Del Rio versus Christian. Alberto comes out first.

When we return, Christian makes his ring entrance. As the match begins, Cole tries to taunt Edge from within the Cole mine, but Edge repeatedly puts him down. The first insult was the best: "You have a physique like a bag of golf balls."
Back in the ring, Alberto takes Christian down, and then whips him to the ropes. Christian shoulder blocks Alberto down then puts him in a chin lock. Christian lands several big right hands and throws Alberto to the floor. The Christian hits Cole with a missile dropkick that knocks him towards the announce table. Edge taunts Alberto with the title.

When we return, Alberto slams Christian into the steel steps outside the ring and then steps on his throat. Alberto rolls Christian back into the ring and puts him in a chin lock. Christian punches his way out but Alberto puts him back down with a back breaker.
Alberto lands a kick to Christian's chest in the corner, and then slaps him hard. Christian responds with several right hands and then climbs to the top turnbuckle. Alberto blocks him and then hits him with a superplex.
Both men are slow to get up. Christian tries to roll Alberto up, but Alberto kicks out. They exchange strikes and then Christian clotheslines Alberto out of the ring; the momentum propels Christian to the floor as well. Both men are nearly counted out. When they get back to their feet, Christian lands several punches and a missile dropkick. Alberto is draped over the bottom rope as Christian leaps to the outside and hits Alberto with an uppercut from the floor.
Back in the ring, Christian goes to the top tope and hits a high crossbody and goes for a cover but gets only 2. Alberto goes for the cross armbreaker but Christian blocks it. Christian goes for the un-prettier but Alberto blocks it. Christian goes for a springboard maneuver but Alberto rolls through it and applies the cross armbreaker.
Christian makes it to the ropes and Alberto breaks the hold just before the count of 5. Christian grabs Alberto and snaps his neck down over the top rope. Christian gets up on the top rope, and Brodus Clay looks ready to interfere. Edge comes out and spears Brodus Clay!
