Reported by Ernest I Aguilar |
This group, he claims, will have no leader, they are all equals. Each member then talks a little about their membership in the Corre and their love for Smack Down.
Teddy Long comes out to announce he is not naïve and is not simply going to allow them to run Smackdown like they did Raw. He tells them they are welcome to be part of the show as long as they follow the rules. He also tells them that unlike the Raw GM, he is not some anonymous talking computer, and he won't put up with their antics.
He tells them they can't just beat people down like they did the Big Show last week. They respond that they don't understand why Teddy sounds hostile. They want to work with Teddy and represent SmackDown at the Royal Rumble. Teddy claims not to be fooled by their pleasant talk, and insists that they follow the rules and respect his authority, and closes by telling them can love Smackdown, or leave it.
After Teddy leaves, Alberto Del Rio arrives in another outrageously expensive car. He has a match coming up, but is here now to tell the Corre that Smackdown is not their show; it is Alberto Del Rio's show. He also tells them that they are not going to win the Royal Rumble, because it is his destiny.

Match #1: Alberto Del Rio versus R Truth.
The two men lock up and Alberto pushes Truth to the corner. Alberto does not give a clean break and instead hits Truth with a kick and then a knee. Truth gets to his feet and clothesline Alberto to the floor. Truth pursues Alberto outside the ring and beats on him before rolling him back into the ring. Alberto tries to drop an elbow on Truth as he re-enters the ring, but he misses.
As Truth starts to work on Alberto's arm, the camera switches to Teddy Long's office, where we see Teddy Long laid out and being attended to by trainers. He looks unconscious and no one seems to know what happened. The paramedics are called. Back in the ring, Alberto is punching Truth, and Truth responds with a clothesline and then a Frankensteiner of the top rope. Truth clotheslines a stunned Alberto out of the ring. Josh Matthews mentions that Teddy does have a history of heart trouble.
Commercial
When we return, Alberto is punching Truth. Alberto whips Truth into the corner, then charges in after him, but Truth gets his feet up and knocks Alberto down. Alberto quickly regains the edge and knocks Truth down, then follows up with knees to the head.
Alberto puts Truth in a chin lock but Truth is able to fight his way out and lands many punches. In the back, we see Teddy Long being placed on a stretcher. Even Vickie Guerrero looks concerned. Back in the ring, Truth hits a clothesline and a sit out gordbuster.
The announcers are telling us that the tentative diagnosis for Teddy Long is a head trauma to the back of the head. R Truth pushes Alberto to the corner and takes him over for a hip toss. Ricardo Rodriguez grabs Truth's leg when the ref isn't looking, and Alberto get a hold of Truth's left arm. Alberto applies the cross arm breaker and Truth taps out.
In the back,Vickie Guerrero is wondering who attacked Teddy, as the ambulance drives him away. The Corre is in Vickie's office waiting for her. They immediately insist they had nothing to do with what happened to Teddy, and they want to help Vickie any way they can.
Vickie says her boyfriend Dolph is facing Edge for the title soon, so she wants someone from their group to face Edge tonight. She also says she expects them to live up to their reputation, implying she wants to see a group beat down of her ex-husband tonight.

Match #2: Layla versus Beth Phoenix.
The two Divas lock up and Beth pushes Layla to the ropes. Layla fights back with a series of strikes, but Beth eventually gets her in a giant swing, going for a cover and getting only 2. Matt Stryker says he has a crush on Bethlehem Phoenix.
There is actually some decent back and forth wrestling going back and forth, including a modified key lock by Layla using her legs. Beth is able to power her way up to her feet and suplexes Layla. Beth and Layla exchange punches with Beth getting the edge and taking Layla down with several clotheslines.
Beth then gets Layla with a slingshot suplex and tries for a cover and gets 2. Layla attempts a fujiwara arm bar, which Matt Stryker called correctly, and Michael Cole mocked him for it, calling it a fuji-whatever. Heaven forbid a wrestling announcer actually knows how to call the moves he sees being executed. I know Cole is trying to be a heel, but I think he's drawing the wrong kind of heat. Beth powers her way out of the hold and hits Layla with the glam slam for the win.

Match #3: Dashing Cody Rhodes versus Rey Mysterio.
Josh Matthews predicts Rey will win this year's Royal Rumble, Cole disagrees. The match starts with Cody shooting for one of Rey's legs and getting it, then pushing him to the corner. Rey goes for a hurricanrana, and Cody respond with a kick. Rey appears to have an injured left knee and Cody goes after it; twisting it and stomping on it.
Cody eventually throws Rey out onto the floor and tries to hit Rey with a baseball slide. Rey dodges the baseball slide and then hits Cody with a drop toe hold that sends him into the steel steps. Rey goes to the top rope and hits Cody with a seated senton inside the ring and goes for a cover, getting two. Rey then goes for a springboard maneuver and gets another two count.
Cody hits Rey with a side Russian leg sweep and goes for a cover but he is also only able to get two. Rey then goes for a big kick which Cody ducks, but Rey spins around and hits Cody with a second kick that knocks him down. Rey then hits Cody with a drop kick that sends him sprawling onto the ropes. Rey hits Cody with the 619 in the face, follows it up with a splash from the top rope and covers Cody for the win!
Cole thinks it should be illegal to hit someone like Dashing Cody Rhodes in the face. Josh says that's the stupidest thing Cole has ever said. If Josh really thinks THAT was the stupidest thing Cole has ever said, he must not be paying much attention to the things Cole says. Which I can certainly understand.
In the back, Todd Grisham is about to give us an update on Teddy Long's condition when he is interrupted by Alex Riley. Alex says Todd shouldn't be talking about people that aren't there, like Teddy, and talk about people that are, like the Miz. Alex flicks Grisham's nose and Michael Cole squeals like little girl seeing the Jonas Brothers naked as soon as he sees the Miz.

When we return Cody is very distressed because the trainer has just told him his nose is broken.
Next up is an amateur wrestling challenge featuring Jack Swagger versus Kofi Kingston. This match is contested under amateur wrestling rules. Swagger scores the first several take downs, and lets Kofi up each time.
The judges scoring the match give Kofi 1 point for an escape every time Swagger lets him up, so the score isn't as lopsided as you would expect given the fact that Jack seems able to take Kofi down at will. During the final minute Kofi actually does score a couple take downs and nearly gets a pin. As the match ends, Swagger is still ahead, 10-9, but he appears embarrassed by the fact that he nearly lost. Swagger cheap shots Kofi after the match, but Kofi gets the advantage, hitting a Thesz press and the Trouble In Paradise, knocking Swagger out.

When we return, Josh, Stryker, and Cole are talking about how high the ratings are on Syfy for Smackdown. Cole and Matthews both claim they are the reason they are high. The ratings aren't really that astronomically high, being the most popular show on an unpopular network isn't that exciting.
Match #4: Trent Barreta versus Drew McIntyre.
The two men start of fast, exchanging strikes. Drew gets the edge and takes Barreta over with an overhead throw, and then pummels him on the canvas. Drew hits Trent with a snap suplex and gets a two count. Trent retaliates with a drop kick and several kicks to Drew.
Trent goes to the top rope and leaps off, but Drew counters and turns it into a modified powerbomb (by 'modified' in this case I mean it was barely recognizable as a powerbomb) Drew slams Trent hard into the corner. Trent climbs up to the top turnbuckle and Drew runs up the ropes after him, taking him over with a superplex. Drew covers Trent for the win.
After the match, Drew offers his hand to Trent, but Trent nails him instead and knocks him out of the ring. Drew gets mad, runs back in and starts to pummel Trent, then sets him up for the Future Shock DDT. Kelly comes out to save Trent, and Drew screams "he hit me first, you saw!" but Kelly tells him to leave her alone as she tends to the wounded Barreta.

When we return Cole is calling the Miz the New York Jets of the WWE: he talks trash and he backs it up. I hate the Jets, I hate the Jets even more than I hate Michael Cole, and I hate Michael Cole more than I used to because he brought up the Damned Jets, who I hate.
The Miz is in the ring with his ward Alex Riley and he's telling us how awesome he is. He's especially proud of the beating he gave Randy Orton on Raw, and he wants to share it with all of us. Edge interrupts to tell the Miz that "You are The Miz, and you are Done." Edge says he's sick of Raw rejects coming to his show, and reminds Miz that the only reason he was able to beat down Orton is because Orton had just finished competing in a match.
Miz promises to beat Edge Monday on the next episode of Raw, and Edge tells Miz he's not in the top 20 things he has on his mind right now, he's more focused on who his opponent will be tonight. Edge tells Miz to get out of his ring now, and drops his mic. Miz slowly backs away while smiling, But Riley looks like he wants an argument. Edge gives him a spear instead, and Miz drags his lackey's body out of the ring.

Match #5: Edge versus a member of Corre.
Corre enters the ring and they've picked Justin Gabriel to face Edge. Vickie announces her boyfriend Dolph will be guest commentator for this match. The bell rings and Edge and Gabriel lock up. Edge gets the early advantage and twists Gabriel's arm.
Gabriel fights his way out and the two men exchange a series of strikes for a few minutes, with Edge finally taking Gabriel down with a sit out rear mat slam. Edge lands many more strikes, but Gabriel again fights back, landing a chop to the champ. Edge boots Gabriel to the floor as we break for the last time.
Commercial
When we return Gabriel has the advantage and hits Edge with boots and an elbow. Gabriel goes for a pin but gets only 2. Justin is working on Edge's neck and arm on the mat, but Edge I fights his way out of the predicament. Gabriel takes Edge down with a leg sweep then goes to the top rope. Gabriel leaps off at Edge but Edge dropkicks him in the stomach.
Edge then hits Gabriel with a flapjack, Gabriel tries to retaliate with a kick but Edge catches it and sends him crashing to the floor. Edge rolls him back in and then goes to the top rope. Gabriel lands a running kick to Edge's head, and then goes for a superplex, but Edge blocks it. Edge headbutts Gabriel off the top turnbuckle and then hits him with a flying cross body. Edge goes for a pin but gets only two.
Edge then starts to set up for a spear, but before he can spear Gabriel, he sees Wade Barrett standing on the ring apron and spears him instead. The other Corre members get up on the ring apron, and in the confusion, Edge gets knocked out by the Corre while the ref is distracted, allowing Gabriel to pick up the pinfall and the win. After the match each member does their finishing move on Edge, Justin Gabriel's 450 splash being the last one.
Dolph sounds very pleased. He was putting over Edge all match saying what a great champion he is, but now that Edge is laid out, Dolph is saying that while he doesn't want to win by forfeit, he does have his destiny as WWE champion to fulfill. Dolph smirks arrogantly as he enters the ring and steps on Edge's chest. Vickie gazes lovingly at her man as Smackdown comes to a close.
