Smackdown TV Report 1/7/11

Reported by Ernest I Aguilar

The Smack is being laid Down for us tonight in Tucson Arizona. The announce team of Michael Cole, Josh Matthews, and Matt Stryker informs us that there will be two main events tonight: Edge versus Kane in a last man standing match for the heavyweight championship, and Alberto Del Rio versus Rey Mysterio in a 2 out 3 falls match. The World title match is first.

Match: Edge versus Kane for the world title, last man standing.

The match ends when one person is rendered incapable of getting to his feet by the count of ten. The match begins with the two men exchanging punches and Edge getting the early advantage. Kane turns things around with a clothesline in the corner, some punches and then a snap mare takeover followed by a dropkick to the face. Kane lands and uppercut, but Edge responds with an Irish Whip and a neck breaker. Kane hits Edge with a side slam. When Edge gets to his feet, Kane charges, but Edge ducks and Kane goes flying out of the ring.

Edge knocks Kane away from the ring apron with a baseball slide dropkick, and then spears him off the ring apron. While Kane is on the floor, the ref begins counting, but only gets to 8. Edge goes out after Kane and Kane hits him with an uppercut and then slams him into the guard rail. After exchanging several punches, Kane begins to retreat to the backstage area.

In the back Kane slams Edge into the walls repeatedly. The two men fight into the stands, in the 200 sections, and Kane tries to choke slam Edge off the stands but Edge fights him off. They end up brawling in the concession stands area, with Edge slamming Kane's head against the wall. The ref starts counting Kane out again, getting to 6.

Kane goes on offense, hitting Edge with a garbage can and several strikes. Kane then looks at a nearby staircase and a wheelchair, hinting at Edge's torture of a Kane's father Paul Bearer in a wheelchair in recent weeks. Kane tries to roll Edge and the wheelchair down the stairs, but Edge rolls out of the chair at the last second. Edge is punching Kane as we break for commercial.

When we return, Edge is pursuing Kane through the crowd. Kane gets the advantage and beats Edge down, prompting a count from the ref that only makes it to about 4. Kane sets up the announce table to slam Edge through it, but Edge slams Kane into the steel steps first. Back in the ring, Edge goes to the top rope and flies off, but Kane hits him with an uppercut and Edge goes down hard.

The ref starts counting out Edge and gets to 8. Kane bodyslams Edge then goes to the top rope but Edge dodges his attack and hits Kane with a DDT. Both men are down and the ref is counting them both. Cole tells us that if neither man gets to his feet by the count of ten, the match will be restarted until there Is a winner. Edge gets to his feet first and tries to spear Kane, but Kane catches him by the throat and choke slams him. Edge is down and the ref counts almost to 9 before Edge staggers to his feet and then rolls out of the ring.

Kane slams Edge into the steel steps outside the ring, and then sets Edge up for a tombstone on the steel steps. Edge gets out of the tombstone and hits Kane with an Edge-O-matic on the steel steps. The ref again starts counting out Kane, and gets to 9 this time. Kane gets to his feet and makes it back into the ring. Edge tries for a spear, but Kane hits him in the face with a big boot instead.

Kane then slams Edge onto the announce table and destroys it, Edge is down for a count of 9, using Matt Striker's body to push himself to his feet just a fraction of a second before the count of 10. Kane then rolls Edge into the ring and brings three steel chairs in with him. Edge gets into the ring and grabs one of the chairs, hitting Kane in the knees with it. Then Edge spears Kane and goes out of the ring to get another chair.

Edge places one chair under Kane's knee, and then grabs another chair and slams it onto the same knee, giving Kane a one man con-chair-to. Kane, clutching his knees, tries to struggle back to his feet, but his knee gives out and Edge wins! Great way to start the show.

Match: Dolph Ziggler with Vickie Guerrero versus Kofi Kingston for the Intercontinental title.

Kofi starts things off fast with several kicks and punches. Dolph tries to turn things around with a punch and an Irish Whip, Kofi responds with a pendulum kick. Kofi goes for a high cross body but Dolph dodges. Dolph gets the edge and beats on Kofi, at one point grabbing him by the hair and hitting him in the head with an elbow.

Kofi fights back to his feet and Dolph hits him with a neck breaker. Dolph then puts Kofi in a headlock but Kofi escapes. Both men exchange blows, and Kofi gets the advantage with a double chop and a dropkick and a near fall. Kofi clotheslines Dolph then hits him with the double leg drop. Kofi goes for the Trouble in Paradise Kick, but Dolph dodges it and puts Kofi in the sleeper hold.

Kofi gets free by prying Dolph's hands apart. Kofi takes Dolph down with a Ranhei takeover, (called SOS in the WWE) and gets a two count. Kofi goes to the top rope, but Dolph blocks him. Dolph goes for a superplex, but Kofi counters with gordbuster of the top rope. Kofi hits a very high cross body and pins Dolph for the win! Kofi is the new InterContinental Champion!

After the match, Dolph Ziggler hits Kofi from behind with a Zig Zag. As Kofi clutches his head, Vickie announces that as acting GM in Teddy Long's absence, she is giving Dolph his rematch immediately!

Match: Rematch for IC title between Dolph and Kofi!

Dolph starts off aggressively, taking advantage of the Zig Zag he landed moments before. Dolph slowly picks Kofi up to do more damage, when Kofi hits the Trouble in Paradise kick from out of nowhere for the win! Kofi is still IC champ and Dolph just lost his title rematch!

Commercial

After the break, Dolph is complaining that it was a bonehead move on Vickie's part to order an immediate rematch, Vickie thinks it's all Dolph's fault for losing not once, but twice and calls him a 2 time loser. Dolph walks away telling Vickie she made a new boyfriend.

Vickie screams hysterically. She is outrageously good at being a loud crazy irritating hysterical evil person. She may have gotten her job because she was Eddie's wife, but she's kept it because she is one of the best people the WWE has right now for drawing heat.

When we return, Drew McIntyre is continuing his weekly courting of Kelly Kelly, and I think he's wearing her down. She seems like she may be a little interested, but as she walks away, Drew smirks, leading us to believe his nice guy persona with Kelly may not be entirely genuine.

I always wonder why evil wrestlers smirk in front of the camera for the entire world to see like that. Hopefully for Drew's sake Kelly doesn't watch Smackdown. She probably spends all her time watching ROH and Dragon Gate DVD's instead.

When we return, we are told the WWE reality show "Tough Enough" will be returning to TV soon. The original Tough Enough is where Josh Mathews got his start.

Match: Big Show versus Dashing Cody Rhodes versus Drew McIntyre for #1 contender to world title.

This has been a great show so far, a last man standing title match, two IC title matches with the title changing hands in the first one, a triple threat #1 contenders match up next, and later on it will be Alberto Del Rio versus Rey Mysterio in a 2 out of 3 falls match. It's like a Pay Per View, for free.

Before the match starts, Vickie Guerrero interrupts to let us know this is now a fatal four way match, and her boyfriend Dolph Ziggler is the 4th man. It looks like Dolph and Vickie made up.

The match gets underway with Dolph, Drew and Cody all teaming up on the Bog Show. The Big Show dominates the opening minutes, body slamming Drew, giving a side slam to Cody, a big chop to Ziggler, and then pulling Cody back into the ring by his face. Show knocks Drew off the ring apron and then beats down Cody some more, eventually flattening him with an inverted leg drop bulldog.

Big Show turns his attention to Dolph and is dominating him until Drew comes in to make the save. Big Show throws Drew out of the ring again and turns his attention to Cody, beating him down and giving him a stink face in the corner. Big Show is beating Dolph and Cody at the same time, knocking them both out of the ring. Cody comes back in and gets hit with a SSHHH!! Chop by Bog Show.

Drew comes in again and is dominated again by the Big Show. The Big show follows Drew outside the ring and picks him up. Drew slides down the Big Show's back and slams him into the steel post. Drew, Cody, and Dolph all team up to slam the stunned Big Show into and through the security barrier.

Commercial

When we return, Cody is throwing Drew off the top rope and covers him for a 2 count. Cody goes to the top rope but is thrown out of the ring and onto the Big Show by Drew. Drew then beats Dolph down in the corner. Cody drops to the canvas to punch up at Drew's chin and knocks him out of the ring. Cody and Dolph are exchanging several huge punches in the ring.

Big Show is finally recovered and is back in the ring and he quickly takes out both men. Big Show hits Cody with a back splash in the corner and a spinebuster to Dolph. Drew attacks the Big Show from behind and hits an elbow drop off the top rope, then Cody hits him with the Beautiful Disaster, and Dolph hits him with a Zig Zag, but none of them are able to get more than a 2 count on him.

Drew hits him with the Future Shock DDT but Big Show kicks out again. Drew goes to the top rope, but Big Show throws him out of the ring. Cody and Dolph prepare to attack the Big Show from behind while his attention is focused on Drew, but out of nowhere Dolph hits Cody with the Zig Zag for the win! Dolph Ziggler is now the new #1 contender for the heavy weight title.

When we return we see a video promoting the return of the freak, Ezekiel Jackson.

Match: Michelle McCool with Layla versus Kelly Kelly.

Kelly has the early advantage, catching Michelle in a headscissors takeover and wrapping her up in the ropes, similar to a tarantula. But Michelle gets the advantage with a distraction by Layla.

Kelly goes for the K2 leg drop but it's countered with the "Faith Breaker" (Michelle McCool's name for a Styles Clash) Michelle and Layla start taunting and beating on Kelly until Drew comes in to make the save. He tells Team LayCool to leave, and they do.

Back from the break and it's time for our final match of the night: Alberto Del Rio versus Rey Mysterio in 2 out of 3 falls match. Alberto comes to the ring in a 1957 Jaguar worth over $100,000 US, which is almost as much as $100,000 Canadian.

Alberto tells us he is puro Latino, not some lowly gardener, or a Chihuahua like Rey Mysterio, will won tonight. Alberto's ring entrance and promo are so long (but reasonably entertaining) that it's now time for another commercial. Commercial

When we return Mysterio makes his way to the ring and the match is underway. Alberto starts with a leg kick, then slams Rey into one corner, then another. Alberto charges Rey in the corner, but Rey gets his legs up and hits Alberto coming in. Rey lands a kick to the head and a hurricanrana, sending Alberto into the ropes.

Rey goes for the 619 but Alberto gets out of the way. Alberto gets hold of Mysterio's arm and locks in the cross arm breaker. Rey taps out! The first fall is over quickly, people always tap out quickly in 2 out of three falls matches so they don't leave themselves too injured to compete in the final 2 falls.

Commercial

When we return, Alberto is working on Rey's arm. Rey fights his way out, but is then hit with a back breaker by Alberto. They exchange kicks and Alberto slides Rey out onto the floor. Rey re-enters the ring shoulder blocking Alberto, then hitting several punches before landing a springboard hurricanrana. Rey lands more shots to Alberto and Alberto responds with another cross arm breaker attempt.

Alberto gets the hold on, but Rey rolls him up and nearly pins him, forcing Alberto to break the hold. Rey trips Alberto up and again misses a 619 attempt, but this time Rey follows up with an arm wrench inside cradle for the win! It's now 1 fall apiece.

Commercial

Back from the break the third and final fall is underway and Alberto has the advantage, holding Rey in a key lock. Rey lands a knee to the head and escapes. Alberto lands a kick to Rey's arm then slams him hard into the corner. Alberto pulls Rey to the top turnbuckle, but Rey knocks him off.

Rey lands a leaping, missile-like headbutt to Alberto, getting a near fall. Rey hits Alberto with a springboard cross body for another near fall. Rey lands some punches, but Alberto grabs Rey's injured arm and slams it across his knees. Alberto hoist Rey onto his shoulders, but Rey slides off and hits a DDT! Rey climbs to the top rope again, but Alberto causes him to lose his balance.

Alberto goes for a superplex on Rey, but Rey blocks it, so Alberto instead takes Rey's injured arm and snaps it over the top rope. Alberto comes back in the ring and Rey trips him into the corner. Alberto hits his head and Rey gets him with a modified 619 around the corner, sending Alberto to the floor. Rey goes to the top again and takes out both Alberto and Ricardo Rodriguez (Alberto's personal announcer) out with a flying cross body.

Rey rolls Alberto back into the ring, but when Rey tries to get back in, Ricardo clings onto Rey's leg, causing Rey to get counted out. The ref never saw Ricardo, he was too low beneath the ring apron.

Rey confronts Ricardo after the match, but Ricardo runs away. Just when Ricardo thinks he's made his escape, Rey catches up to him and kicks the crap out of him. Rey rolls Ricardo into the ring and hits him with a 619 and a springboard splash as Alberto looks on. As the show comes to a close, Alberto walks away smirking as Rey poses for the crowd.
