The Smack is being laid Down for us tonight in Cincinnati Ohio. The show begins with a recap of last week's show. A step by step time line is provided for us. They show The Corre introducing themselves and then show Teddy Long confronting them. Shortly after Teddy is attacked and rushed to the hospital. Vickie announces she is in charge and the Corre let's her know they had nothing to do with Teddy's attack and want to help her however they can. Vickie asks them to beat up her ex husband Edge, and at the end of the show, they do.
Josh Matthews starts to introduce tonight's show when he is cut short by the shrill screams of Vickie Guerrero yelling "Excuse Me!!" Vickie says she regrets to inform us that Teddy will not be here tonight and wishes him a speedy recovery. She even says she misses him. Vickie is interrupted by Randy Orton who was invited here from Raw to participate in tonight's main event.
Vickie wants to know why he is there as the crowd chants RKO. Randy tells her to relax, he's just here to show his appreciation for being invited to SmackDown. He also tells Vickie he's never had the pleasure of getting to know her, and says "so you'll have to...excuse me...for what I am going to do to your boyfriend tonight.
He says he's going to do the same thing to the Miz on Sunday, and then he puts his arm around Vickie and compliments her hair. There is now an even louder RKO chant now, it's pretty clear what the crowd is hoping will happen. Then Randy looks at her and says for her…there is no excuse. Vickie looks nervous but her boyfriend Dolph comes to save her. Dolph asks Randy who he thinks he is, and who he thinks they are. Dolph insists that Randy respect them. Randy says you have to earn respect, and then RKO's Dolph as Vickie screams.

When we return Team LayCool is entering the ring. Matt Striker says that the LayCool entrance music is his favorite song. Personally I prefer the Pizza Nova jingle.
Match: Layla and Michelle McCool versus Kaitlyn and Kelly Kelly.
Kaitlyn and Kelly attack LayCool from behind before the match starts. Kaitlyn hits a double clothesline just before the bell rings. The bell rings and Kaitlyn and Michelle start things off. Kaitlyn hits a shoulder block and a body slam but is then distracted by Layla outside the ring. When Kaitlyn turns around, Michelle hits her with a boot to the face and covers her for three. LayCool wins; neither Layla nor Kelly ever actually entered the match.

When we return, Drew McIntyre is making his way to the ring. Kelly Kelly is still at ringside, apparently she didn't go back to the locker room with her partner Kaitlyn. The announcers think she is there to watch Drew McIntyre, but I think she just didn't want to go back to the locker room with her loser partner Kaitlyn.
Match: Drew McIntyre versus JTG.
JTG starts off with several punches and a dropkick that sends Drew to the floor. Outside the ring, Drew clotheslines JTG to the floor and slams his head into the steel steps. Kelly shakes her head in a disapproving manner. She must hate violence, which explains why she became a wrestler. Josh Matthews points out that Drew insists he's only a horrible violent person inside the ring, outside the ring he's completely different.
Unfortunately, as Josh is saying this, Drew IS outside the ring, and he's slamming JTG's head into the steel steps. I know Josh meant Drew is a different person when he's in a match, it just looked and sounded funny to me. You've got to take whatever meager laughs you can get out of this lame romantic storyline, unintentional or not.
In the ring Drew is dominating with a series of strikes and then hits JTG with a body slam and covers him for a two count. Drew puts JTG in an armbar on the mat and JTG is able to fight his way out and go for a back slide pin attempt, but Drew kicks out. Drew regains the edge and beats JTG some more as the crowd actually begins to chant "JTG". I would not have thought he'd have enough fans to get a chant going, because of how much he sucks.
JTG goes for a roll up, but Drew uses his momentum to roll through it and counters with the Future Shock DDT for the win. After the match, Drew walks back to the dressing room as Kelly enters the ring. It's not clear if he saw her and ignored her, or if he just never noticed her at all. Kelly stands alone in the ring staring off at Drew.

When we return we see a recap of Rey Mysterio hitting Cody Rhodes with a 619, hitting Cody directly in his handsome face with a steel knee brace. Cody is now addressing the WWE universe with his back to the camera. Cody is devastated. He believes Rey damaged his perfect face on purpose, out of jealousy. Cody tells us that he has a broken nose, a deviated septum, and will require extensive reconstructive surgery.
Cody also says this was especially cruel because Cody earns his living with his face. I thought Cody was a wrestler, but obviously I was mistaken. He also tells us he won't be able to compete in the Royal Rumble because of Rey Mysterio's attack. Cody tells us that he was walking down the street recently and a small child saw him and said he wasn't dashing anymore. And the worst part? He was right. Poor Cody.
Edge is being interviewed in the back, and he's talking about the beating he received at the hands of the Corre last week. Edge claims to have a memory like an elephant and then forgets the names of the Corre members because they're obviously not cool enough for him to remember. Edge also tells us tonight is the re-union of Rated RKO, and that in their match tonight, he will spear Dolph Ziggler.
Alberto Del Rio is shown in the back greeting former Nexus member Michael Tarver.
Commercial
When we return Alberto Del Rio is driving to the ring in a ridiculously expensive car as Roberto Rodriguez introduces him in Spanish. Michael Cole says this is his favorite part of the show, which sounds especially stupid to me because Cole doesn't speak Spanish; as far as he knows, Roberto is saying "Michael Cole is the biggest tool on the planet."
Alberto grabs the mic and says he is not going to tell us it's his destiny to win the Royal Rumble; he's going to prove it. Alberto says he is going to have a Royal Rumble exhibition tonight and throw another wrestler over the top rope every thirty seconds starting now.
The first two people out are jobbers that Alberto disposes of easily. Matt Striker was able to correctly identify the jobbers as Western States Heritage title champion Seth Allen and brass knuckles champion Mike Stevens. Matt Striker is an amazing wrestling nerd. He is more of a wrestling nerd than I am and I pride myself on being a wrestling nerd.
The next jobber out is no jobber at all, but former champion and Rumble eliminations record holder, Kane. Kane and Alberto face off and Kane strikes first, but Alberto turns things around with an Enzuigiri to the head. Kane regains the advantage and tries to choke slam Alberto out of the ring, but is stopped by Kofi Kingston, who rushes down to the ring and pushes both men over the top rope at the same time. Kane and Alberto approach Kofi from opposite sides and look ready to beat him down when Rey Mysterio comes to the ring to make the save.
Vickie Guerrero comes out to say "EXCUSE ME!" and to announce that she will not allow her show to get out of control. She says the four men in the ring will be forced to compete against each other in a tag match next.

Match: Alberto Del Rio and Kane versus Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston.
Kane and Kofi start things off. Kane knocks Kofi down and then whips him to the ropes. Kofi baseball slides under Kane then knocks Kane down with a drop kick. Kane tags Alberto and Alberto takes Kofi over with a snap mare and then drops him on the back of his head. Kofi tags in Rey after landing an elbow to Alberto, and they double team Alberto. Rey has the advantage and lays in several shoulder blocks, the last one Alberto avoids, causing Rey to crash into the corner post.
Alberto tags Kane and Kane lands a few strikes before Rey takes over, hitting Kane with several kicks and a drop kick, sending Kane to the floor. Rey tags in Kofi and Kofi dropkicks Alberto and Kane as they argue with each other. Kane and Alberto are outside the ring and Kofi and Rey take them out at the same time with high flying moves in stereo.
Back in the ring Kofi and Alberto are legal, and Alberto has regained the advantage. After administering some punishment, Alberto tags in Kane and Kane lands several strikes and a side slam on Kofi. Kane has Kofi in the corner where he and Alberto are able to double team him. Alberto knocks Kofi down and goes for a cover but gets only two.
Michael Cole observes that Alberto has been showing a new found aggression lately. Michael Cole says that about someone EVERY SINGLE WEEK. I would say that's "vintage" Michael Cole, but some might mistakenly interpret that as a compliment. Cole's three favorite words are: aggression, vintage, and Miz.
Kofi finally breaks free and makes a tag. Rey enters the ring by knocking down Kane with a seated senton. Rey then lands a dropkick to the face of Kane, and goes for a springboard move but is knocked out of the air by a big boot from Kane.
Commercial
When we return, Alberto has Rey in a chin lock. After a sunset flip attempt by Alberto, Rey lands a kick to the head and both men are down. Alberto gets up first, picks up Rey and drops him on his knees. Alberto tags in Kane and Kane stomps on Rey and then picks him up. Rey is able to free himself and hit Kane with a DDT. Rey tags in Kofi and Kane tags in Alberto. Kofi lands a dropkick and Alberto counters with a tilt a whirl back breaker.
Alberto looks for a tag, but Kane is on the floor trying to recover. Alberto looks mad and Kane boots him in the face and walks away. Alberto is taken out by a combination 619 and Trouble In Paradise from Rey and Kofi, and Kofi pins him for the win.
A recap from a brawl on Raw between Edge, Orton, Miz, and Dolph that set up tonight's main event.

When we return, the Big Show is walking to the ring and he's all smiles until he starts speaking, then he's angry at the Corre. He warns the Corre that they don't want to see him angry. Show says his beat down at their hands reminded him of the Royal Rumble, because he knows he's going to get ganged up on there to. Show is telling us that he hasn't won a Royal Rumble yet, when he is interrupted by the Corre.
They surround the ring and Big Show calls them cowards for not facing him one on one. Heath Slater decided to take Show up on his offer for a one on one fight, and after a cheap shot from behind the bell rings and a match is underway. Slater starts off OK and lands a few strikes. But in just a couple minutes, Show lands some of his signature moves, a running clothesline and a corner back splash before hitting Slater with a choke slam for the win.
Commercial
When we return there is a lot of hype for the Royal Rumble. They mention the number of people that have fought in past Rumbles, how many went on to become champion, how many became Hall of Famers, who holds the records for most eliminations in a single match (Kane with 11) and who hold the record for most eliminations in their career (Sean Michaels with 39) and they note that Steve Austin holds the record for most Rumble wins with 3.
Miz comes to ring for the main event and I swear it sounded like Michael Cole had an orgasm in his pants. Miz starts talking about the Truman Doctrine and financial aid to Turkey and Greece. What does this have to do with the Royal Rumble PPV, he asks? NOTHING! Which is exactly what the fact that Randy Orton came out here and RKO'd Dolph Ziggler and terrorized Vickie means.
Miz tells us the only voice Randy will hear in his head will be the Miz saying he's the champ, he's the Miz, and he's awesome. Cole says he got chills. Dolph comes to the ring next and Cole calls him the Miz of Smackdown.

Match: Main event tag team match: Edge and Orton versus Miz and Dolph.
Dolph and Randy are in first and they lock up. Randy gets backed into the corner but quickly gains the advantage after they exchange a series of strikes. Randy lands a couple European uppercuts to Dolph but is then distracted by a taunting Miz. When Randy goes after Miz, Dolph is able to land a kick and a punch, but then Randy knocks him down with a Thesz press before tagging in Edge.
Edge hits Dolph with a flying clothesline from the top rope, goes for a cover and gets 2. Edge then slams Dolph into the corner and follows up with sit out rear mat slam. Dolph tags in the Miz and Miz kicks Edge. Alberto gets in a cheap shot and Miz puts Edge in a chin lock. Edge gets free and hits Miz with a boot to the face and tags in Randy.
Randy clotheslines the Miz, stomps on him, and then hits him with a scoop slam. Randy starts to set up for the RKO when we are suddenly, bizarrely taken to a commercial.
Commercial
When we return from the commercial break, we are treated to another commercial, this one a WWE commercial for the Royal Rumble. We then discover that during the break, the Miz was saved from the RKO by Dolph, who pulled Randy out of the ring and onto the floor. Miz now has Randy on the mat and is pounding away at him. Miz puts Randy in a chin lock and keeps him from making a tag.
Josh Matthews says that the Miz is wearing down Randy they way Cole is wearing down the WWE universe. Miz maintains the advantage until finally Randy is able to muster the strength to deliver a clothesline and tags in Edge. Miz tags in Dolph at the same time and hits Edge drops Dolph with a clothesline and a flapjack.
Edge looks like he is setting up for the spear. Alex Riley tries to interfere, but Edge hits an Edgecution. Dolph tries to hit Edge with the Zig Zag but Edge holds onto the ropes and Dolph hits the canvas. When Dolph gets to his feet, Edge spears him for the win!
After the match, Vickie Guerrero comes out and angrily announces that she is banning the spear, and if Edge uses it on Dolph at the Royal Rumble, he will be disqualified and stripped of his title. Edge responds by spearing a dazed Dolph to the floor, then spearing him again on the floor. Vickie is furious, and Edge looks ready to spear her.
Edge goes for the spear on Vickie, but she falls out of the way and Edge ends up spearing Dolph for a third time. The show comes to a close with Edge posing in the ring with his title as Vickie screams angrily some more.
