Smackdown TV Report 3/4/11

Reported by Ernest I Aguilar
The Smack is being Laid down for us tonight in Cleveland Ohio. The show begins with a recap of Vickie Guerrero being fired last week after losing her mixed tag match. Later tonight there will be a contract signing between Alberto Del Rio and Edge for their WrestleMania match. It should go really well; contract signings in wrestling generally go about as smoothly as wrestling weddings.

Edge comes out the ring to start the action in the arena. Edge is talking about Alberto Del Rio attacking last week, while he was celebrating the departure of the woman we all know and love...to hate; Vickie Guerrero. Edge wants to get back to celebrating and starts to lead the crowd in another goodbye chant.

Instead Drew McIntyre (the man who got pinned last week resulting in Vickie's termination) comes out and attacks Edge. Before they get too far into a brawl Teddy Long comes out and tells Drew that he wants to thank him, and thinks everyone in the WWE Universe should thank him for losing last week, because that loss resulted in Vickie getting fired.

Drew doesn't seem pleased at the fact that everyone is thanking him for being a loser, but Edge gets the crowd to start up a "Thank you Drew" chant.

Match: The two men jockey for position and Drew very quickly starts to work on the left arm of Edge, which was injured by Alberto recently. Drew slams Edge's arm into the apron and stomps on and twists it repeatedly, both inside and outside the ring. Edge fights his way out, but is knocked down and out of the ring by a big boot from Drew.

Drew slams Edge's arm into the announce table and rolls him back into the ring and goes to work on his arm some more, this time removing the protective bandage. Edge fights his way out, but Drew again knocks him to the floor. Edge hits Drew with a back drop on the floor and then rolls him back in. Edge climbs to the top and hits Drew with a flying cross body.

Drew tries to regain control by going after the arm, but Edge is able to hit Drew with a spear after an Irish Whip. Edge goes for the cover but then pulls Drew's head up. Edge debuts a new submission move that looks like a variation on the sharp shooter and Drew taps out.

When we return, Rey Mysterio's music hits and a masked man comes out, but it's not Rey, it's Cody Rhodes wearing the mask he took off Rey's face last week. Cody is still angry that Rey broke his nose and hideously disfigured him (he actually looks exactly the same, but with a plastic nose guard) but is glad he was able to pay Rey back some of the pain and suffering he inflicted on Cody. He thinks it was the right thing to do.

He also tells us that at WrestleMania, he is going to destroy Mysterio and remove his mask; exposing what is left of his face.

In the back, the Corre approaches Kane and Kane asks them what they want. They remind him that they helped him beat the Undertaker recently, and tell him they want to see his opponent tonight, the Big Show, get a beating.

Match: Tag team title match between champions Heath Slater/ Justin Gabriel and Santino/Kozlov.

Santino and Justin start the match and Santino immediately scares Gabriel by threatening him with the Cobra. Santino takes Justin down twice then tags in Kozlov. Kozlov hits Gabriel with a high knee then tosses him out of the ring.

Back from the break, Kozlov has a headlock on Heath Slater. Slater escapes and takes out Kozlov's knee and beats him in the corner where Wade Barrett is able to land a cheap shot. Heath tags in Gabriel and they double team Kozlov. Justin puts Kozlov into a cravat and then transitions to a side headlock.

Kozlov hits a suplex and tags in Santino just as Justin tags in Slater. Santino has the edge and lands several strikes, dodging Slater's attacks with a split. Santino sets up for the Cobra, but Wade Barrett jumps up on the apron and Santino hits him with the Cobra instead. Slater comes up from behind and hits Santino with a reverse DDT for the win.

After the match we are told Christian will make his return next week, after having missed the last several months due to an injury sustained at the hands of Alberto Del Rio. In the back we see Alberto looking approvingly at a painting of himself that his personal artist is painting.

When we return, we are shown a recap of HHH explaining his challenge to the Undertaker for WrestleMania. HHH says ending the Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania is the only thing left for him to accomplish, and he will beat the Undertaker or die trying.

The Undertaker comes to the ring to the Johnny Cash song "Ain't no grave can hold my body down." Undertaker says that while he agrees with HHH that they are the last two of a dying breed, and that HHH may be the greatest world champion from the last 15 years, after WrestleMania he will become another statistic added to the streak.

Still to come tonight: the Contract signing between Edge and Alberto. Josh comments on how smoothly these things always go. Commercial

When we come back, we are shown a video of Mexican Luchadore Sin Cara (formerly known as Mistico) who will soon be making his debut.

Match: Beth Phoenix and Rosa Mendez versus Team LayCool.

We're shown a recap of the recent arguments between Michelle and Layla before the match starts. Beth and Michelle start things off with Beth taking Michelle down and working on her leg. Beth tags in Rosa and Michelle tags in Layla. Michelle and Layla work over Rosa in the corner until she is able to free herself and tagging in Beth.

Beth takes Layla down, hits her with a front slam, and goes for a cover. Michelle comes in and makes the save. Rosa also comes in to chase Michelle away and the ref keeps Rosa out of the ring. Michelle takes advantage of the distraction and hits Beth in the face with a big boot. Layla rolls Beth up for the win. Layla and Michelle seem to be best friends again.

Match: Big Show versus Kane.

The two men lock up and Big Show pushes Kane to the corner. They exchange punches and Big Show tries to set up an early clothesline. Kane frees himself and the two men hit each other with a clothesline at the same time and they both go down. The Corre comes to the ring, and Wade Barrett slides a chair into the ring in front of Kane.

Kane knocks out the Big Show with the chair and then the Corre comes in and administers a beating to the Big Show. Kane then takes the chair and knocks out Justin Gabriel and chases the Corre out of the ring. The Big Show won by disqualification, but that doesn't seem to matter at this point.

Commercial

When we return, Shawn Michael's is talking about the Undertaker/HHH match at WrestleMania. Shawn says he is of course rooting for HHH because they are best friends, but he isn't sure how he will feel if HHH succeeds where he failed.

Match: Jack Swagger versus JTG.

Michael Cole enthusiastically screams that Jack Swagger is "his guy" because Jack is helping Cole get trained for his WrestleMania match with Jerry Lawler. I can't believe Michael Cole has a match at WrestleMania.

Cole enters the ring and asks for our attention. He then tells the audience that next week he will announce who the guest referee will be for his WrestleMania match with the King, and promises it will be someone flamboyant and Awesome.

Commercial.

When we return the match is finally underway. Jack takes JTG down quickly twice, then hits him with a pair of slingshot corner splashes. Swagger puts JTG in the ankle lock and JTG taps out as Michael Cole screams hysterically with perverse joy. Cole claims he's going to make Jerry tap to the ankle lock.

We're shown highlights from the Rock and Cena's recent verbal exchanges. A lot of funny stuff by both of them, but I'm not going to recap lengthy recaps every week.

In the back, we see Edge defacing Alberto Del Rio's custom portrait and beating up his personal painter.

Commercial

Teddy Long is already in the ring for the big contract signing and Alberto Del Rio comes out next. Alberto's ring announcer tries to lead the crowd in the singing of the Mexican national anthem, but Edge comes out and interrupts part way through. Teddy would like them to make this the first contract signing in wrestling history that doesn't end in chaos.

As Alberto and Edge face each other, the crowd starts to chant USA in support of...the Canadian or the Mexican? Maybe the crowd thinks Edge is American, but they do announce him as being from Toronto Canada every week, a fine city that is also home to the best TV reporter covering Smackdown and Impact (me.)

Maybe the crowd is chanting USA for Teddy Long, or maybe they're just not that bright in Cleveland. No offense to any Clevelandians out there.

Edge and Alberto stare each other down and do a little trash talking before signing. Alberto talks about his destiny and Edge talks about his WrestleMania experience and 11 world titles. The crowd chants "let's go Edge" as Edge signs.

Alberto signs next. Edge tells Teddy that he has an answer for that Favor Teddy asked earlier: that the signing be the first ever in wrestling history not to descend into chaos. Judging by the look on Edge's face, I'm guessing the answer is no. Edge and Alberto start to brawl as Teddy runs away.

Edge beats Alberto down, hits him with a DDT and then sets up for the spear. Roberto Rodriguez reaches in and grabs Edge's leg, preventing the spear and giving Alberto a chance to recover. Alberto knocks Edge down and pummels him in the head repeatedly.

Alberto puts Edge in the cross arm breaker and then rolls him out to the floor. Alberto gets a steel chair and wedges Edge's injured arm into it when Edge is suddenly saved by his former tag partner and former brother, Christian! Christian takes Alberto down and then beats him down twice before security breaks it up.

Smackdown ends as Christian tends to a bloody Edge.
